Are you planning on building it out of wood? If so, the area where the light frame supports attach to the main tank structure could be an area of concern. That's a lot of stress where those supports attach to the base.

it would all be welded steel tubing, powder coated and sealed with an epoxy. My idea was to make a top for the light frame that could just sit on it. The light would be secured to the under side.

My question is, would having a static structure 12” above the tank get in the way of anything like maintenance or rock/coral placement? Or is 12” plenty of room to work?

Thanks!

Sometimes you really need complete access to the top of the tank. I'd make the top removable if possible.

I just had an idea, I could put it on hinges. This way I could just flip it back when servicing. I’m sure there’s some design challenges to this but I don’t doubt it can be done. Has anyone done this before? Any feedback?

Thanks!
