I used to "transition" my bird by adjusting his light timer a few minutes everyday for about two weeks.

I have a smart light create an artificial sunrise (with red colors and everything) so the fish wake up when I want them to. Some are shy and prefer to eat when it's still fairly dark so I feed them at sunrise. I can't adjust my schedule as much as natural sunrise times vary so I have an artificial sunrise at 6 AM all year round.

The whole daylight savings concept is ridiculous, IMO. lol
Even more ridiculous is that the consensus among government officials pushing for a 'fix' is to make DST permanent...

Great—this still leaves us with a 1-hour offset from the true GMT offset based on longitude.

I think the actual reason for time zones seems lost on most people. The Earth is divided into 24 equal slices, each 15 degrees apart, because it rotates once every 24 hours. The idea is that the center of each time zone aligns with solar noon. With 'permanent' DST, clocks would always be set 1 hour ahead of true solar noon AND we permanently don't match GMT time or parts of the world that do not observer DST and instead... ahem, go by the timezones as dictated by a sphere being sliced into 24 equal parts and solar noon passing each one of those parts.

I don't want to spiral here into the history of time... but hey why not give the universe and all of recorded time the middle finger? Let’s just redefine 0 longitude to be a city an hour off from Greenwich while we're at it.

Thats interesting I was told it had to do with farming......
And I was always told it's so kids didn't have to walk to school in the dark

My fish don't seem to mind but they beg for food from lights on until lights off. One of my dogs is not happy.

Really nothing to do with kids walking to school... but the idea was to maximize daylight during work hours, mostly for economic reasons and dating back to Ben Franklin.

His thought wast that shifting an hour would lessen the use of candles...
However it was not until WWI - where Germany actually shifted an hour to extend daylight during work hours to conserver energy for the war effort.

The same in the US. It started as a way to conserve AND even out energy use between homes and industry. There are numerous other reasons that followed.

Along with Utah and Hawaii.. it’s been said they’re gonna put it on a ballot but they never do! It sucks..
Its totally dumb, in Cleveland it doesn't even get dark until 10p in June whereas in Dec its dark at 5p …
Since nobody is picking beams anymore I think the time has passed on DST

it certainly an antiquated relic of the 20th century!

(it’s even more ridiculous that mobius and the likes allow to make adjustments to whom the sole beneficiary isn’t even the inhabitants of the tank…. there is no “daylight savings” on the reef, anywhere… it’s ridiculous!)
Yeah and All these dang “equipment universes” : Neptune has built in DST, Red Sea does not

I was reading about it a couple weeks ago and there was examples of like Chicago the sun wouldn’t rise till almost 8am and kids would have to walk to school in the dark.. that’s fine, at least let the west coast stay on daylight savings lol. Or Vegas just needs to vote it in like all of our neighbors..

My shepard is driving us nuts, not because its actually hungry but its time for us to feed her so she can walk away from the dish to return at her leisure
Both of ours know exactly, within 5 minutes of when they are supposed to be fed....they literally start barking at 5 o clock. Now, that time has become an hour earlier lol.

6 oclock, 9 oclock is 6 o'clock and 9' oclock. My controller automatically changes the time and the fish have to go with the flow. I feed them frozen around 7:30p whether its standard or daylight time

The "fall back" and gaining an hour of sleep is annoying. The "spring forward" and losing an hour of sleep is cruel.

Fun fact, I Googled it the other day and it all started in Germany for World War I to help with Energy savings. And it just continued to different countries over the years.
A lot of people believe that it's farmers, but farmers don't care about daylight savings time. They get to the fields when there's work to be done and the sun is up.
