One of the things we love about this hobby is that we are ALWAYS learning something new. We are starting a series of posts on our social media channels called "Fish Facts" in which we will share interesting facts about saltwater fish (and inverts too). Here is the first of many posts to come:

This is probably a well known fact in the community, but I was rather fascinated by it. Clown fish choose their sex when they create their hierarchy, and when the dominant female dies, the dominant male takes over and changes to female.

This fact is definitely on our list to share - it's amazing how many fish, like clowns, can change sex. THANKS for commenting, it's definitely a cool fact!

These brightly colored fish are small, easy to care for, reef-safe, generally peaceful, and don't break the bank. And, they only require a tank of at least 30 gallons (larger if you want them to school.)

Not all species of anemones will host all species of clownfish - it's important to do your research to make sure you are putting the right ones together if you hope to have this dynamic relationship in your aquarium.

Awesome idea for a thread! I'll be following this. I'm currently making a fish list for the tank I'm setting up in my classroom in the fall, and will be sure to use some of these as ways to get the kids more interested in the tanks!
