I’m building a 125 gal 72’x18’x22’ tank and am thinking about the fish I’m hoping to stock it with. So far my wish list is the following:

-One spot foxface rabbitfish
-Kole yellow eye tang (from my research this would fit my tank long term. I would be open to other tangs, but most seem to need a tank larger than what I have. I’m also looking for something with more variation than just a solid yellow tang)
-Red tail triggerfish
-lawnmower blenny
-Melanurus wrasse (I’m hoping this will be a good replacement of 6 line wrasse as I’ve read too much about their aggression)
-a pair of clown fish

I would like to add another fairy wrasse, maybe a red velvet fairy wrasse or a lineatus fairy wrasse, but I’m not sure they would coexist with the melanurus.
Also is the Melanurus a good controller of tank pests?

I would also like a dwarf Lionfish but I don’t think it would be compatible with everything else.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome!

My 125 6’ has the following:
8” Sailfin Tang (was a rescue from another reefer and our only Tang)
Japanese Swallowtail Angel
Boxfish (in QT - just got it)
Pair of Clowns
Pair of Melanurus (they eat Vermitids at the very least)
6-line (model citizen)
Cleaner Wrasse
Citron Goby
Starry Blenny
Black Sailfin Blenny
Bi-color Goatfish
Green Filefish
Firefish
Royal Gramma
Striped Dottyback
Banghhai Cardinal
Various snails, some emerald crabs and 3 rock boring urchins.

no shrimp because the Melanurus pair thinks they are tasty snacks

had a Foxface but it went rogue and started eating Zoas despite heavy feeding

This is an impressive list. Your 6 line hasn’t been aggressive at all? I’ve read so many accounts of these being just mean. Have you added many fish after your 6 line?
Do you have a photo of your tank? I’d be interested to see the aquascape. I’m guessing this has contributed to your success?

We have about 100lbs of rock. There are enough caves that the 8” Sailfin can disappear- she is actually seen in this picture coming out of her “garage”. The rest of the fish can go from one end to the other completely inside the rocks yet we have a lot of open swimming room also. We have added our female Melanurus, the filefish and the Citron Goby since we got the 6-line. He’s never exhibited any type of aggression towards anyone. He’s in and out and all around constantly and eats at the same time as everyone else. With my wrasse population I have absolutely zero pods no matter how many times I add them into my sumps.

WHOA! That long nose bat fish looks super interesting! I’m definitely doing some research on that. Thanks for the heads up.
Have you ever kept a bat fish? If so, what was your experience with it?

no, but i have always wanted to. live aquaria says they're hard to keep, but many sources say otherwise. I'd go for it if i were you, but be ready to start feeding live fish, and wean to frozen silversides. They are super cute when they're babies :)

They are nice but kinda hard to feed. My friend has one and his only eats small live fish
