We all have those fish that we would love to have in our reef tank and for one reason or another we don't have one. Maybe it would eat all your coral or maybe the price tag is too high! Whatever the reason is this "fish" has become the fish of your dreams. Let's talk about it today and why you can't have one!

1. What is the fish of your dreams?

2. What are the reasons you can't have your dream fish?

My dream fish is a queen angel. The reason I can't have them is tank size. I go visit scheels just to see the queen angel.

I have but in all honesty that species has changed over time. At first it was an Achilles, wait a bit but eventually got one. Love it great fish. Then it was a Morish Idol.. I waited until I felt it was the right time and right specimen, done.

My truly dream fish would be a epaulette shark and a blue spot stingray but that is the stuff of dream because of the tank requirements.

1. Moorish Idol
2. Achilles Tang
3. Leopard Wrasse
4. Black Leopard Wrasse
5. Bluestar Leopard Wrasse.
6. Gem Tang

1, 2 and 3 are already in our display tank and thriving while 4 and 5 are thus far surviving copper in our QT system. 6 is a possible addition for the near future since we graduated one for a client through our QT system.

I like the expert level fish, very rewarding.
I have (3) Blue Star Leopard wrasses that I put through QT from LiveAquaria & (1) Copperband Butterfly fish that I also put through QT that I picked up from LFS before it was eating anything.

Totally agree that something about the expert level fish not only survive but thrive is one of the coolest parts of this hobby.

Achilles Tang is next on my list!

I've always been a fan of puffers, but I've been there, done that. My true dream fish would have to be a black tip reef shark. They're probably the nicest practical shark to own. Of course, it'd probably take a lot of experience (and a lot of $$$) to achieve that...

I would love to have a pair of Genicanthus semifaciatus or Genicanthus melanospolis. My 32 gallon biocube is too small though

Could not agree more with Deschutes541 and WirelessMike
and I think it is irrelevent that a fish should rank lower as a favorite fish due to its availability.
Problem is it's feeding (copepods) I think it would soon deplete my endemic copepods and I am unable to source live copepods. I am awaiting for my LFS to again have captive bred Mandarin Dragonet acustomed to eating frozen mysis. Benn waiting a while now though;) Stunning fish to my eyes
