Just a couple fish in today from Live Aquaria’s Divers Den and this flame angel has what looks like a “raised” or “shiny” scale. His behavior is great and instantly started eating with no problems at all. The blemish is only visible when looking almost head on and only at that perfect angle does it seem to “shine” or “glare.” It’s still so early I’m only in the observation stage of quarantine as it’s day one but still, I do not know what to make of this. So, I thought I’d see if anyone here has seen anything similar or has any thoughts about something I’m unaware of so if needed I can start treatment ASAP.

here’s a photo of the same side but not at that “perfect” angle and you can’t see anything at all.... makes me think is nothing but who knows... any thoughts??

I would not be yet concerned based on the behavior you are describing. As it adjusts to tank and diet, it may very well vanish or remain as a pigment

Here are few better pics... seem like a scale lifting or shedding because only from this angle is it visibly stinking out.

Hers an update 4 days later it is turning black... I’m pretty sure it’s nothing but the only thing is it’s sticking out a bit like a shedding fish scale or something.

Anyone seen anything like this before? Maybe just growth and starting a new pattern? But why is sticking outward unlike the rest of the scales? ‍♂️
Again, eating a ton and very active with absolutely no signs of irritation. No scratching or swinging into current for relief of any kind. Just something new for me so looking for insight. Thanks!

Tough to see but Centropyges have spines on their scales that can get snagged in nets, etc. I’m thinking this is a single disrupted scale. It can take a few weeks for this to resolve.
You will want to get a proactive quarantine started in case something else crops up though.

What products would suggest to have on hand in case this persists? What’s the worse thing that can come of this?

what the best product for improving slime coat and is there a reef safe one?
Sorry for all the questions haha

If it is just a disrupted scale, no treatment would be possible. Just watch the fish for additional scales looking disrupted, as that means something else is going on.
