Who sells the marco rocks that are cut flat? Or how can I cut existing rock to have a completely flat surface? All I can find is shelf rock but none are cut to be flat. Thanks in advance

I too was unimpressed with the flatness of most shelf rock I found on the go to sites. I've gotten a few boxes of shelf rock from a company selling as "Ricordea Box" on Amazon. Both sides are cut flat and it's perfect for my use. Their business name is listed as "Atlantic Sea Farms". I haven't used it in tank yet as I'm waiting on parts to finish my current build. It does look like they increased their prices since I last ordered though.

I remembered that I have an unopened 10lb box of the shelf rock I got from amazon. Here are some pics. It has some smaller pieces than the last order but should give you a good idea of what it's like. I know pictures of the actual product were hard to find when I was searching.

You can use a hacksaw to cut marcorock (or a bandsaw if available).
BRS sells flat cut marcorock I think they call it foundation rock but it's pricey.
Two little fishies makes flat cut rock which is actually flat on 2 sides. May be an interestimg option. Liveaquaria sells it.

I have never used the BRS or 2 little fishies products, I just use a hacksaw.

Try using a tungsten-Carbide grit edge hack saw blade, It cuts through macro rock really well. It's like cutting through wood. I think they sell them on amazon.com. It might save you a few pounds having on buying machine cut pieces if you've already got rock spare :)

Hey Vested! either will work fine :) but if your going to get one I'd go for the flat grit edge blade (great for straight cuts), the rod is ideal for changing direction mid-cut.

Tip: It's easier to cut through the rock when it's dry. If the hack saw is too small to make a full cut just rotate the rock a little and continue to cut, slow down at the end so you get a clean cut. Best of luck! :)
