Flight ✈️ of the Bananna Eel

I was visiting family in Dallas (I live in NYC) and saw a Bananna eel for significantly below market price (or at least live aquaria price). So I decided to buy it after doing research that showed that I would be able to put it in my carry-on luggage.
So sunday I picked up the eel on the way to the airport and 8 hours later it was in my quarantine tank. I will say,
TSA was not happy about it and I had the most thorough “pat-down” I have ever had.

How did you pack it for the flight? I honestly cannot imagine what the discussion would have been like with the TSA!

Doubled bagged (with compressed O2) at the Dallas LFS, put in a backpack and taken to the airport. And yes, when I pulled it out at the security line, they thought I was joking.

You’d think the TSA would have at least a little sense of humour by now. It’s not like the eel was smuggling contraband...

I thought you couldnt bring any liquids (with or without eels) on the plane? How did you do this? I always want to bring stuff back from trips but I'm so worried that they will not allow me past the check point....

My fear is if I buy a high-end nem or frag while on vacation and bring it to the airport as carry-on I'll get a real stickler at TSA who says "Well, that's not a fish, sorry!" ..:mad:

Glad he made it home safe! Theyre awesome eels and one of the best for a community/ reef tank. Just make sure not to put him with any clams
