Hi everyone,

I'm trying to set up my 125g tank, but i'm having an issue with flow. I have a hang-on over flow that has 1" pipe for a drain, and a Rio 3100 return pump. However if i set the overflow to the level i want the water to be at the return out pumps the overflow. I have tried toning down the pump with valve but it seems like i have to turn it down to much and i don't wan the pump to burn up. The other puzzling part is if i lower the water level in the tank by lowering the overflow the overflow will out do the pump.

so my question is how do i keep the water level where i want it yet keep the water flowing into the sump = to the return.

any help is appreciated

Also use a gate valve it will fine tune it exactly where you want.. Ball valves can be a pain... Adjust it little by little and wait a good 10min before touching it.. Some times takes a few minutes to balance out..
