Flowing Coral: What's your favorite "moving" coral?

Duncan and torch!! (out of what I own)

Very important. SPS tanks are cool, but if they don’t any movement, they are less interesting IMO.

How long have u had this duncan coral? I can see a lot og new mouths. Just bought two lil mouths n I would like to know about its growth pattern, like how many days to it realease a new baby on ur tank? And how much time for that new mouth get a considerable size? How do u feed ur duncan?

So many people have been asking me this lately, lol!

Hmm... I believe I got this one less than a month ago, from @Pieces of the Ocean, and it only had 2 heads at that time.

Now, a little over a month later, it has 3 big heads and at least 10 baby heads.

I would say it would take about a month for a baby to get big. But I will keep an eye on mine and see.

I feed it whole mysis 4x a week. (1 mysis per big head)

Just about anything that is flowing! Rn favorites are BTA’s but that is only because it happens to be the only thing in my tank at this moment.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Toadstools such as Weeping Willows or Japanese Long Polyps. They can rival any Torch or Goni in movement and are easy to keep.

Love my Alve, also some of my SPS.

I think everyone should have 1 or 2 moveable coral in the tank. It will help show water flow.

Quick 32 seconds of my alve, I think I have flow dialed in nicely.

Let me start by saying that "flowing coral" doesn't have to be a soft coral or even an LPS coral. I've seen some SPS polyp fluff that can rival some of the best coral tentacles! With that in mind let's talk about coral that flows!

2. How important to you is having a reef tank with coral movement in it?


For inspiration, here is a 10-month-old, 80-gallon mixed reef belonging to @MulletBoy .

That is a ten-month-old build? Frags were certainly not considered on the purchasing list.

If I had the cashola, I would purchase all colonies myself.

As bland and fast growing as a coral it is I do not think anything compares to the movement of Pulsing Xenia. Of all the beautifully colored corals I have stuffed in my tank many of which move with the flow it ceases to amaze me how many compliments I get from random people on the Xenia..

oh i agree 100%, i have tried so hard to find a pulsing xenia, but its always just a xenia marketed as a pulsing one, i bought one once and it wasnt so i have a boring xenia, does anyone know how to avoid the ones who try to pass off xenia as pulsing?

I’m jealous! I can’t find a frag of long polyp toadstool like this anywhere near me.

Moderate. Coral movement is nice, but I could be happy with a lot of color, and let the fish do the moving. I like the way torches wiggle, but I only have this little one that hasn’t wanted to fully extend. Recently increased flow to try to coax him.

If you like movement, just raise your flow. Couple of mp-40’s and those SPS will dance.
