I am on day 3 of a Reef Flux treatment in my 200 gallon system. I used the dose on the bottle (20 capsules worth). I have bryopsis and derbesia (GHA). The bryopsis is almost totally dead but the GHA looks unaffected so far. All my corals and fish look awesome (actually better than ever). The instructions for Reef Flux say to start skimming again after 3 days but to not add carbon or do a water change for 2 to 3 weeks. If I want to try and kill the GHA should I not start skimming again and let it ride? What actually dictates how long the fluconazole works? Is it how long the skimmer is not skimming or how long you go before a water change?

From what I've read, it has something to do with the growth and photosynthesis of the GHA. I would keep skimming because as GHA dies, it's releasing the phosphates and nitrates back into the water. Overabundance of nutrients causing the cyano and dino outbreaks after fluc.

How did your Fluconazole treatment end up working for the derbesia? What was the final result? Did the derbesia come back after treatment? I’ve been battling this algae on and off in my tank for years and tried several times to treat with Fluconazole. In my tank, the treatment knocked the derbesia back, but failed to eliminate it completely.

I’m just over a week in…treating bryopsis and GHA with flucanozole. I have a 140gl and used 2 bottles of reef flux, 20 capsules I believe. Started seeing the bryopsis turning white and today it’s almost completely gone. The GHA took a bit longer but also is receding. Left my skimmer off for a week and no carbon. Going to leave it another week before adding carbon again and doing a WC. The stuff works for sure. The recommendation is to overdose a bit as it has little to no affect on livestock and corals…and that seems to be pretty well documented in the hobby from what I’ve read and talked to different reefers who have used successfully.

Today is day 14 for me, I haven't turned anything on nor have I done a water change. I really wanted to make it to day 21, but I have a couple pieces of coral not happy. I wasn't concerned with the 2 leathers that are ticked, but my space invader isn't puffy (like the acan) for the first time in a long long time. I haven't cleaned or really touched the tank in 2 weeks, kind of let it do it's thing. PO4 is up to .09, as I type this I am about to go put the skimmer back online. Seeing the space invader looking frail will have me do a water change and add some carbon likely tomorrow. The small areas that are left I'll get after. I will say that the bryopsis was completely gone by day 5 and I was concerned about the GHA on day 11 not being impacted, but by day 12 it just melted away, literally.

OH, I meant to add. I am shocked to see how many asterina I see now. But, none are going after any zaos, yet. I'll have to go on a hunt this weekend as the lights start to come online.

Are you dosing daily fluc for 2 weeks?
