I am deciding between the Fluval 307 or Marineland 360 canister filters (both in good used condition) and wanted to get recommendations on which one would be most efficient for my setup. Thanks!

Equipment: 75-gallon tank, 2 Reef (Nicrew) LED lights, 2 heaters, Marineland Magnum Polishing internal canister filter, Ton of live rock, 2 Wavemakers

Livestock (fish, corals, inverts): 13 coral, 9 fish (2 Mocha clowns, 1 Gold nugget maroon clown, 1 longnose hawk, 1 leopard wrasse, 1 watchman Goby, 1 scopas tang, 1 Fiji blue devil damsel, 1 Strawberry basslet), 1 fire scallop, 10 hermit crab/snail blend

Hmmm, I read quite a bit about this being a top option. I am honestly adverse to how loud HOB can be. I guess I need to do some more research.

If the price is right I would get both. Alternate cleaning them, they will need frequent cleaning.

I would go 406 or fx4. I run the fx4 was on my 75 and now running on the 90. Hob are ok. The canister gives you more options for media and adds more water. You can change flow with them as well. I think they are a much better filter.

$80 for the Fluval; $125 for the Marineland. seems that the prcinig isn't too bad.

Sucks, I just missed a deal on the FX5 for $100 a few days ago. I'm thinking to get something on the cheap while a keep a watch for another Fx4+ deal

I have a 75 gallon fresh water cichlid tank and have 2 canisters. A Fluval G6 and a large Oase canister. They both have their primary filters that can be removed for cleaning without removing and disassembling the canister.

Check local listing, Craigslist and fb marketplace. Freshwater people are leaving the hobby as well.

The amount of detritus at the bottom of the filter is pretty amazing. I clean mine ounce a month. Same holds true for hob.

The bigger the better. 350 gph that's only 5x that's not to bad and the wavemKers will make up the difference and help keep detritus in the water column.

fluval is the walmart brand of this hobby, beware of their products.

But I agree with Blaxsun, HOB filter is much more convenient than canister.

Why would say that.
about the fluval or about the HOB?

the fluval is cheap and minimal function with lots of tinkering involved. There are thousands of threads of fluval stuff and AOI being upgraded. Thousands. Just buy better brand to begin with then wont need to upgrade later. I've bought 2 fluval units myself in the last year, just to save a buck, and I learned the lesson again, dont buy cheap.

The HOB is cheaper, easier to clean, easier to run media like carbon or phosguard, helps create surface agitation.

Of course all this is my opinion only

Do the HOB tend to be loud? I know this is a petty concern but its something I think about since the tank is in a highly used and open area of the house (dining/family room/kitchen)
