1. Do you keep a clam?
- Yes, currently 6

2. What type of clam is it?

- 2 Derasas, 1 Maxima, 1 Crocea, and 2 Squamosas

3. How long have you had it?

- I just set these up as part of my system so oldest is only 1 year but I've kept some for 8 years in the past.

4. Where do you have it placed in your tank?

- In a 12g Mr Aqua rimless plumbed into my 420g system with ceramic tiles under a bed of TLF Reborn media.
Lit by Maxspect R420R 15,000K 8" above the water line- currently running the Preset#1 lighting schedule and color mix. They seem to like the daylight better and open up fully during the morning hours and are more shut when the lighting is more blue at night time. I also run a pretty long light period that is over 8 hours.

I take it the hippo on the left didn’t make it? Looks full on gaping. :(

Ive kept a Dursa from 2000-2007, he was a ****** and grew to a bit over a foot. In my current tank I have a maxima, he's put on ~2" in the 2.5 years I've had him. Both clams were on the sand, the dursa just sat directly on the sand, i let the maxima set his foot on a large frag disk then set him in the sand and covered up the disk.

I don't have terribly strong lights, I only do water changes every 4-6 months, and all I use kalk via ATO. Lots of people have a hard time with em (so i hear), but for me clams have always been one of the easier things to keep. ::shrug:: this hobby, who knows... :)

That clam surrounded by the zoa’s is stunning. You should be very proud of that!

Ok that was dumb but I do have some questions for you! I have a clam coming tomorrow, first for the "new" tank and it got me thinking about how many are actually currently keeping a clam.

1. Do you keep a clam? Yes

2. What type of clam is it? Maxima

3. How long have you had it?over 2 years

4. Where do you have it placed in your tank? On flat rock on the sand bed, under the brightest light.

Share a photo of your clam for extra class credit!
No this is not my clam. I saw this clam in Palau last year. Over 6'.

No clam here. Flame Angel won't allow it.
Got a racoon butterfly today, spent two hours breaking down the rock work to catch it, apparently it will nip at anything. My softies, my lps and sps, but worse of all my sweet little Roger the squammy.

Good question. I usually get a spawn every year during the summer months with no issues, only happy corals. I wouldn't even care when I came home to cloudy tank during the summer months I just figured it was business as usual. However this year I had an epic spawning event that lasted for a week and a day, every 15 minutes from 1pm to 7pm everyday. My tank wasn't so happy after this. Nothing died, but I did get some algae and cyano.

Here is a video from the first day it started.

Wow. This is amazing. This clam must be really happy. Thank you for sharing.
