It’s soft.

It's not a Chiton then. They have 8 hard interlocking shells. It's some type of flatworm. Some are good, some are bad. It looks similar to the sand skater. Let me do some more looking for you.

Its definitely not a flatworm and to the OP no need for an alarm. Chitons don't neccesarily feel very hard to the touch that size. Even if it is a sand skater it is harmless. I'd leave it be as it's a good member of the clean up crew.

Great algae eater and no harm to other inverts or tank mates

Agreed. I don't think it is something to worry about. First guess is sand skater. I know I've seen something very like the OPs picture before...posted by someone else...and it was given a positive ID. I just can't find it. R2R has gotten so large, finding things...even using the search...can be difficult. I have only seen Chitons with hard shells, myself. That's why I love R2R. I learn something new every day, and I've been in this hobby over 10 years. :cool:

Not a chiton. Looks like a nudibranch out of water. Be careful, as some of the white lacey ones are coral predators. Here's a link to something close to what I am thinking of;
You could pry it off and put it into a cup of tank water to see if it "uncurls" and crawls around... Then nudi very likely. Some egg masses can look like this too.
Get rid of it!

I’m surprised no one said asterina. Totally could be an asterina starfish. OP, can you take a pic of the underside?

pic is for comparison only.

Ok. I've had some time to do a little research for you and came up with these sites.

I wish I could have helped more with a positive ID, especially since there are multiple ideas about what it might be, but IMHO: When in doubt, remove it.
