I've got a couple 50g lowboy tanks that I'm using for growouts and I'm wondering if I should just place the tiles right on the bottom or raise them a couple inches on black eggcrate.

I'm going to have 4 tanks - softy, Los, high par sps and a medium par sps. And all pieces will be on 3" tiles and I'll probably use magnetic racks or a separate tank for cut frags.

I put my 4x4 tiles right on the bottom
That's the way I think I'm going to go. Seems like it's easier for the cleanup crew to get to them.

Just trying to see if there are any benefits I'm missing to raising them up.

I started off using cheap ceramic briques but have switched over plugs, discs and tiles from Alternative Reef and won't be looking back.
