I've received plenty of corals and chaeto and tank bits.
Have also given away lots of corals, and tank equipment.
Not in this to make any money, just purely for the fun and to meet people.

I haven't gotten anything free but I also have never personally met anyone else in the hobby. The main reason I joined R2R was in Hope's of finding a local club but seems that was a bust as well lol
start some threads looking ,do meet and greet if you have no already

Not a reefer, but the tank I was going to start my reef in was free. It was a full, brand new 50 gal acrylic freshwater set up: tank, light, stand, python, filters, chems, a bunch of random stuff, and livestock. I changed my mind after contacting the lady and she messaged me back asking if I just wanted it for free. Of course now I couldn’t say no. So, I liked the fish in it so it stayed fresh and I bought another for the reef.

I was once given an entire 65 gallon FO tank setup, fish and all simply because the owner was moving and wanted someone who he knew would take good care of his pets. Even helped me load up the truck. I ended up giving him $50 I had on me just because I felt so bad I was being given so much for nothing. I've also gotten some free frags here and there, and got such a ridiculous deal last year on a large tank and equipment it might as well have been free.

The hobby is full of people who just want to enjoy the hobby and help others enjoy it as well. I've given away my fair share of frags and equipment as well. Just can't help but pay it forward. Recently someone stopped by to buy a few frags and was fairly new to the hobby and I ended up giving away a spare protein skimmer. The hobby should make you feel good, and local hobbyists being so generous with eachother really adds to the enjoyment of the hobby.
