I’ve been trying to find anything on if I can keep the same sand substrate that was in my 5 gal freshwater tank and convert it into a saltwater tank. It’s cheap sand, Top Fin Premium Aquarium sand, but it’s something I have now which I wouldn’t have to buy if not needed. Any advice would be cool.

Def would not advise on doing that. You don’t know what’s in that sand that will throw your water out of whack in a saltwater tank. Small tank like that a bag of sand is only 15-20 dollars. If you don’t have the money yet save your money and wait until you can afford it.

Thanks. My gut said that too. I just have everything else here and ready besides the sand.

Boil it in a big pot and use it is my advice.
I use that same sand (the black one I assume?). Love it too much to give it up.

It’s white actually. It was for my betta tank upgrade but he since has passed, RIP.
