so i decided to turn my last freshwater tank into a reef so I'm a full convert to the salty side now. i started by curing some dry rock in a lg Rubbermaid tub with some fish & a few chunks of rock from my 240g for a year. i built a new stand for this tank to hold a 100g tank for my sump/ato tank & installed internal overflows as this tank was set up for hob equipment. i drilled the bottom for a full siphon drain set up. I made mounting for the lights from 3/4" conduit & painted them black. the plan is to go lps for this tank mostly torches/hammers/frogspawn. i decided to use live sand in this tank, still not sure about that choice but I'm going with it. the tank has been running since late December had a bit of the gha stage more on the sand than the rock. i also bought a apex/trident/dos for this tank i got that set up for the most part still a few things left to get everything plugged into the power bar. i got some fish a few wrasse some zebra dart fish pajama cardinals a pair of mocha storm clowns. the algae is slowing down & pretty much under control. i thought i would do a thread to keep track of the growth & progression of this tank

i got some time to snap a few new pics, my photography skills are not so great need to spend some time in the photo forum lol. but i picked up some torch coral & a few hammers from a local reefer who is also a R2R member. i also moved a orange plate coral over from the 240 that was getting to much flow in that tank & set in on the tile i had planned for my ppe favia, guess i need to add another one of those, but the plate look's much happier now. still got spots of gha on the sand & rock but it's starting to fade away.

a closer look at the battle between the coralline & gha on the rock looks like the gha is starting to lose the battle. this tank seems to be turning the corner much faster than the 240 did, that tank was dry rock straight out of the box. i don't think i will start another tank with fresh out of the box dry rock again. still got a ways to go it's a young tank still but I'm happy so far with how it's turning out.

snapped a few pics this morning, finally scraped the coralline spots off the back glass lol. everything is looking pretty good. got some new powerheads i need to install, gonna see if i can improve the flow in a few low spots & bring it down in the middle of the tank is just a bit to high flow for my liking. will see how it goes.
