My mother has found some beautiful fulturite rock on the beach that looks perfect for my reef tank. I can see some trapped organics in the melted sand and was wondering if anyone has had any issue with adding it to a tank. Will it harbor healthy bacteria? Will coral be able to grow on it? Is it worth the risk (if any) to make my mom happy?

I wouldn't, it's probably full of silicates which would encourage diatom growth. Silicates is generally something you want to avoid in the small confines of a home aquarium. Ocean is big enough that it doesnt make a difference but our little tanks will feel the change
