My Gem Tang that's been through a full QT is fading in the DT. Looking right at his side, can barely see any white spots. Looking head on, his sides look almost mirror-like. Any thoughts?

and accurate assessment, please post a couple of pics under bright white light intensity- no blue
Fish eating and breathing normal?
What copper level did you run and how did you test?

Is it breathing normally and eating well?

Zebrasoma tangs have sort of “dry” dusty scales, you aren’t just seeing that?
Eating like a champ, breathing normally. It's him and blue tang that I am observing some color issues with. He is very pale, blue tang, few times a day black spots become very lite gray.

Also just checked for stray electricity in the sump, none detected.

I should also add spots were bright white in QT.
I see mucus cones likely from a skin irritation and may be mixed in with ich
Other occupants often do not show signs but keep an eye on them for any development if such spors
Treat with coppersafe for 21-30 days monitoring level of 2.25 with a Hanna brand copper test kit and maintain good water quality and diet

Yep there's a mucus cone on the fin, it's been there since I got him, not getting worse or better.

If it's Ich, then I am done trying to beat it. I broke the tank down twice already, treated it with Copper, and then went through 30 day hypo. If it's still in the system, then I simply can't find a way to defeat it.

I just don't see ich, but you should see it in person a lot easier than I can from photos.

If the fish aren't scratching, you can rule out flukes. If they aren't breathing fast, and are eating, you can rule out velvet.

I might have got it all wrong, but isnt the OP asking why his gem tang doesnt have more white spots on its sides ? Not disease related white spots, but the normal gem tang white spots...
We understand that and pointing out what was noticed. Patterns differ on many fish especially angels

Thanks, I didn’t understand that. I thought they were asking about the skin texture.

I misunderstood your question - these tangs can increase or decrease the intensity of the spots. They can also get larger white blotches (that look like disease!). Tank lighting may play a role in this. In the absence of other symptoms, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Would you mind to point out the mucus cone to me? Just following along and trying to learn.
Thanks.

Yes indeed, thank you for pointing that out.

Agreed about the patterns, but the question wasn't about patterns, but about them getting bright white, and dull at random times throughout the day. Mostly being dull.

Thanks Jay. What can cause the color changes outside of lights? Lights are not too bright at the moment, normal I would say. And what would cause black pattern on blue tang to become very light gray?

@vetteguy53081 this is the whole point of the thread, most of the time I can barely see his spots. Brighter pics won't help as they are invisible. Only time they are bright is when he's eating.
Having 26 tangs, as with my chocolate tang, only time I see this is when the fish is intimidated or uncomfortable. The images you provided make it hard to see the fish in whole and best would be a video of at least 30 seconds and in brightest possible lighting
