Generator is working the night shift. UPDATE! Everything has survived over 15 hours with just a 900 watt generator and very little sleep.

*lubbock got slammed too, at 6pm outy

fired up an igen 2200 bought off amazon, so I can run microwave in the mountains while man camping, and saved fridge and pico reef. generator saved my setup too last nite.

*there are very fancy silent battery bank ones / 80K mah which I think my apt neighbors would have preferred but in the end I wouldnt trade for the gas/unlimited.

I had no idea a 100$ generator was avail, wow

So right now Harbor Freight is selling it for $125 but it’s regularly on sale for $99 and $109. It can also be found at other places. Same generator just branded differently.

I switched out the bulbs for a higher powered heat bulb. The 60 watt wasn’t warming enough and the tortoises were only up to 65 degrees. Got them up to 90 now so I moved the fixture up. Aiming for 80 to 90.

Power just kicked on. Hoping it stays on. I’m leaving everything the way it is for now so the space heater will work along with the mini split to get the building warmed up.

Glad to hear it.

Just curious, what kind of maintenance should generators get? And do you have to start it every once in a while to keep it working?

Thinking of getting this one.

Says it

  • Runs for up to 13.5 hours on a 4 gal. fuel tank with built-in fuel gauge

I run mine for 15 to 20 minutes every 60 days when it isn’t being used. It’s a 2 cycle engine so the oil is mixed with the fuel. On 4 stroke engines oil will need to be changed. Then there’s the air filter. I haven’t changed mine yet but before this time it had only been run for less than 10 hours.

If you do get a generator and its going to sit for a while between uses filled with Gas, i suggest getting some fuel stabilizer. Gas can go bad..

The break in period is where engine nerds get picky, these 4 stroke ones for sure

what I did on my new westinghouse 2200 came from a youtube video from a man so dedicated to small engines I'd better listen.

i ran it one hour new then oil change (a few ounces, easy) then another hour and another change

then i ran it 4 hours and change, and now normal. I wont do the change till normal use/ every 20 h average.

the first two changes were indeed dark with metal flecks in the oil. the last one was very normal looking, that man was right
last nite when I needed it to save my old pico reef and fridge, it handled fridge plus reef on one 120v leg, and then a 50 ft extension cord into my neighbors window and he did his fridge off the second 120v outlet on the machine. that was about 80% max use of it

the one you are about to get is about 4x better than that one, can likely run most of your house

For fuel I was using this until I ran out and had to mix my own to get through. It has stabilizers mixed in that keep it viable up to 5 years. Stihl also makes fuel.

The other thing I do with mine is shut off the fuel valve when I’m done with it but leave it running until dies. This clears out the lines and carburetor while being stored.
