So it begins! I have been on break from reef tanks for 5yrs and finally have jumped back in head first. Had a 90g sps tank for 9 yrs that grew amazingly under my OCD care. I wanted to do a different type of tank with a much more shallow design and really like the 16in depth of the frag series. I’m currently waiting on the delivery of our WaterBox frag system. In the mean time I am putting together the mods in return plumbing, laying out the controller board, starting on my aqua scaping design, and designing my separate 7g cube fuge. Lots of orders coming in.
I masked out my tank location and side cabinet where I will be putting the fuge. It will be displayed In a small cabinet and most likely have a small angler there in the future. But t let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Lots of planning and building to do before any of that.
I’ll be using some new AI Hydra 64 and I also have a set of AI Vega lights that I never installed on my last tank before breaking it down. Might be older but I’ll use them for now till and see where it goes. Also got a Kessil H80 Tuna for the fuge.
I had the first generation vortech powerheads on my last tank tank and liked them but as this is a new tank and much shallower I went with iceCap Gyre 2k after a good review from another R2R member that I will put across from each other at first and probably mess around with flow as I go.
I will be updating this regularly and I respond fairly quickly to posts. Looking forward to this new tank journey.

This is what I purchased for the side cabinet. I will put the Cube fuge in the upper right area. I won’t be able to pull it out on the sliders the cabinet came with but I have plans to use them for my control board under the display. My current plans are to frost the glass on the other side door since it will be used for misc fish stuff but I’m toying with using that as a dosing pump cabinet and backlighting it with LEDs. Still have time to decide on that though.

Ok here’s a question for anyone reading.
Should I send water to my fuge off or my return manifold or should I use a small separate pump and why? It will be overflowing back to the sump.
Im torn on this. Part of me wants to run a pump but the other part is stuck on running it off the manifold....o_O

Really don’t like the space limitations I’m running into with my controller panel. I still have to fit my S2 pump controller and Tunze ATO..... all that and I haven’t even made the holes to hide my wires. The taped off area on the left is my ADJ switch panel.

As I wait for the tank I’m slowly checking off these small projects. My side cabinet what will house my fuge and also storage. I will probably put a dosing unit behind the door below the fuge since there is no room under the tank. Ignore the holes where the handles would go. I want to find different ones that look more modern or possibly plugs. I actually enjoy building things from scratch but sometimes it’s nice to get your IKEA on. Haha
I found this cabinet on Amazon actually And wanted to keep the white matching the tank stand. H80 installed as well. I’m doing a test on how hot the stand gets.

Well the plugs for the handle holes looked horrible and I really don’t want to go through the process of filling, sanding, and repainting this thing so I got some handles that matched our Kitchen. The wifey will like them and that’s what really matters here. :)

Where did you find the stand? This might be a good option to hid things in my living room ;)

Got it on Amazon. Everything I’m doing with this tank is about hiding. I’ll probably use the lower cabinet for a dosing unit and I plan to frost the door glass so I can put supplements and tank gear in there. Making it as clean as I can with all the plumbing and wires as well. Hope this helps

Drilled the drain on the fuge today. Waiting for my 1/2” bulkhead to drill the return. Also got my power cord extensions in to clean up my wires on the controller panel. Makes a huge difference in my opinion to have all plugs match that will be visible and what goes on behind doesn’t have to be seen. (Don’t worry that will be tidy as well with my OCD)

I changed my ATO over to the Neptune ATK. I like the redundancy and the compatibility with my Apex mostly. Since they changed the pumps since The 1st version I’ll run it. Also got UV acrylic rods and a sheet to do some building.

Time to get the manifold and return ball valve matched to their color.
I have been putting lots of thought into how to setup the fuge. I’m leaning towards an algae barn large fuge kit but since it’s going to be displayed, possibly a different algae instead of chaeto. Possibly Red OGO but I’ll have to do some research on its absorption and potential.
