My Ogo has settled and is looking happy. Nitrates are unchanged but As with all things patience is necessary.

Took some time to setup the trident since I’m adding cleanup crew and want to monitor the water much more closely now that we are getting closer to the coral additions. I have kept a few of my fish in quarantine secret (its more fun with surprises) and I will be adding the first 2 next week. I currently have 5 fish in different stages of quarantine getting ready for the main display.
this is where I have decided on putting the Trident for now. I also am adding a C02 scrubber to my skimmer since I live near a major highway and I’m going to watch how it affects my PH. I’m not unhappy with 7.9 PH but at the early stages of my build I’m trying things and seeing where it leads to. I’ll be mounting the scrubber just above the filter sock side of my sump.

HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!
I was woken in the middle of the night by my apex telling me the salinity dropped to 33.5 from its normal 35. Of course I jumped up to check everything (I feared there was a leak that the sensors missed) and found the large sponge filter that separates the skimmer section of the sump and the return pump is almost completely clogged up with a clear slime. This caused the water level in the skimmer section to rise and the return section to drop, turning on my ATO. 3 gallons of freshwater diluted my salt content. Filter socks are plugged up as well as my carbon filter. I really hope this slime is not what I have seen others deal with. Time will tell. The slime is everywhere. I’m cleaning as much as I can right now. Sent off an ICP test as well. Parameters are all normal except alk is a bit low for my liking at 7.4 but it’s not horrible. The red Ogo in My refugium doesn’t look affected at all.

Any thoughts? Might have to get a microscope. :(

@Jgerm, I saw your other thread on the clear slime and I agree with others who suggest it's bacterial film. I recently had some similar thick but easily brushed away bacterial film in my frag tank. I did brush a lot of it off my frag racks but it seemed to really just take care of itself after a couple weeks. It is strange and almost like a solid material where it can get caught in mechanical filtration easily. Weird stuff.

Yeah I’m using my turkey baster and filter socks to remove as much as I can. Doesn’t seem to be harmful to the crabs and snails. Just annoying to me. I sent of an ICP test to see if there is anything off in the water.
I got the brick holders as well!!!! Just got preoccupied with this slime stuff this weekend. I’ll install those in a few days.

After a diligent attack on the slime, which included basting and cleaning out filter socks for 48hrs, I have reduced the slime to almost nothing but in the sump. The already high flow of my tank I’m sure helps as well keeping the stuff in the water column. Everything is looking much better.

Alright with all the slime issues I was worried about our two little additions a day before the slime arrived. So here is Crush the orange storm clownfish and Latte the mocha storm clownfish. They have been putting up with me basting every hr while trying to settle into their new home. They buddied up in quarantine and are inseparable now. Both eat like pigs any food I put in the tank. I believe Crush will be the female as it seems to be the dominant one. Either way they are home. If I knew the slime was coming I wouldn’t have moved them over but I was a day late.

Great build and tank!

Lokks like you are taking care of the problem and getting things cleared up.

The clowns look good and can't wait to see you add the others?

Appreciate it!
I am trying my best to keep to contain the issue before it becomes out of control. Fortunately I work from home and I’ll be watching closely all day for changes.
I am really excited to get the others in quarantine moved over as well! Next will be Mr. E Wrasse. Lol ;Smuggrin

Slime is almost completely gone from all tanks. Now I have a red Ogo growth explosion. Lol;Smuggrin
Honestly I know people have had bed experience with this Macro algae but it is working awesomely for me right now. 3 weeks in a new system and I’m going to be harvesting next week. I’m going to have to get a bigger bio load going so I don’t starve it. Time to move over some more fishes from quarantine. Here’s a comparison to save you from scrolling back.

My wife really liked my choice of trident waste water container. ;Smuggrin Going to make a custom cork top and put it in the left side glass cabinet to display. Haha

First corals have been added as well. Burning banana, pink Cadillac, and mystic sunset montipora all have their own rock islands to encrust so they will not bother my acros to be added to the main rockwork.

Ok so this tank is designed for SPS and will have majority of it filled with them but I did get some chalice corals as well. Small frag of Grape watermelon and a large motor city mayhem. I will be making them their own rocks that can be removed to keep them trimmed.

This has been immensely entertaining. It is fun to see a project manager loaded with budget, energy, research, obsession and vision get to work. All your equipment/build choices are really nice.

A few questions:
Curious if you deduced the nutrient source for the bacterial bloom? Ammonia is often a driver, but I could not pick out a source for that. I know it was temporary (as most are) but it puzzled me.

Big picture question about nutrient import versus export. You mention a light fish load which in the context of your export tools feels... super clean. Scary clean to me longer term. And yet your macro is growing right before our eyes. Did I miss mention of a school/method/regime you will run this system on? Triton? Red Sea? Zeo? Other? I run all the same/similar nutrient export tools, but dump in tablespoon of meat and nori everyday.

I am also a big fan of the sump blocks. They process a lot of NO3. I will say that I eventually had to shield them from light. I could not keep them in the fuge. Have you done this part before?

Keep it coming. Good stuff.
