Alex - been following your channel for quite a while now. I recall you mentioning that you had +/- 26 fish.. curious what your fish do at night time and do they all have a place to bed down at night?

I'd like to stock my tank quite full as well and I once read somewhere that each fish sort of needs a place to hunker down at night. Curious what some of your larger fish do at night time? Cheers, thanks!

It's quite hard to show on video, but there are loads of hiding places in my scape. Some big spaces, some small. I don't see where they all go at night but I never see any bother. The tusk goes into the big cave in the left hand bommie, as does the foxface.

Hey friend. I'm about to install a Clarisea 5000 on this exact setup. The primary drain won't align with the roller filter unlet but it does nicely if I switch the primary drain to the end of the overflow box.

See any problems with this? I dry fit the plumbing today with this swap and it fit very nicely.

Cheers,
Rosso

As in swap the primary drain with the main drain? Hmm. Sounds like a bad idea - aren't they different sizes? I'm guessing their flow capacity will be different.

Can you swap the hard plumbing from the overflow in the sump to flexible plumbing so it bends into place?

It appears the gasket components for the primary and secondary drain are identical.

The primary drain has 32 mm tubing and the secondary has 25 mm, at least as per Red Sea but I’m going to check again using calipers.

While it seems drastic, and I too am nervous and need confirmation from Red Sea. If the gasket coupling mechanism to the piping is identical (it seems such because the pipes fit perfectly), things should be ok. I’m just moving the primary drain from one place in the overflow box (middle) to the side. Just looked at some reefers in which this is the standard.

I like your idea of flex tubing considerations here. Thanks

Hi Alex, amazing build!! Just ordered a reefer 500 myself to put up against a wall. Very inspired by your setup. Would you mind sharing more info on your auto water changer? Looks really neat.

Hi Allan,

Here's a video I made about it -

Really good bit of kit, I don't think I'd still be doing weekly water changes if I didn't have it. Let me know if you've got any specific questions about it :)

Cheers, Alex.

PS. While I'm here, here's a recent FTS and a photo of a purdy acan :D

Beautiful tank. Do you still have the tusk? Also it's hard to tell, but is that a blotched anthias?
Thanks. No more tusk, returned him to my LFS after he ate my jawfish

Nope, I have 5 longfin anthias and a falco hawk that probably looks a bit like a blotched in that pic (if you squint)

This is how the anthias looked on day 1...
