Yes, those are the purple dots on the siphonoglyphs I was talking about. Well that tosses out my theory that it was a trait of gigs if that is a verified haddoni. So it’s definitely a Haddoni, but it is beautiful and I got a good deal (ordered a much smaller anemone) and got a discount toward a baby gigantea. The gig does look a bit bleached. Any thoughts on what the colors will look like once it’s healthier?
Oooh, if you're lucky it may turn into a nice multi-color gig! Sometimes they look iridescent. If you're unlucky it'll turn into a tan gig. But it's still a gig nonetheless! I second what @D-Nak said. I’ve ordered one that looks like this and it stayed more of a full green with tan around the edges. They don’t move, but they do sting anything they can touch. I put some acros around the base of my anemone island to fill the space, but those are starting to get stung to death. That’s ok with me, I always intended anemone island to be just that. As long as they don’t get big enough to stretch over to other structures from the island.
Following- so amazingly interesting!! Thank you !I wanted to make a thread that follows my dealings with Stychodactyla gigantea (gig) carpet anemones and post updates to some experiments with them.
My first post I want to introduce maybe the most rare gig I’ve come across so far, a red gig. The classification of this anemone was under question for a while, but I flew out to California, brought it back with me, treated it, and it’s my opinion that this is indeed a red gig.
My reasoning for why I think it’s a gig is because it does have the trademark verrucae, though they aren’t the bright purple that I’m used to. Additionally the anemone has two siphonoglyphs with bright purple spots on them inside the mouth that is common among my other gigs. Lastly, the tentacles are longer than that of haddoni and stick to my finger to the point that they tear off the anemone. I have seen this with my other gigs as well.

My intent is to figure out how to spawn gigs in captivity and use the red to bring some amazing color morphs to the hobby that are truly sustainably sourced. I’ve successfully spawned gold torches in my system and I’m hopeful I can do the same with the anemones. I’m also experimenting with some asexual reproductive strategies of gigs too, which I will post about later.
