Wait. A gig thread I did not know about!!!!!!

Sweet. This little guy finished its last day of cipro yesterday. It is now in a observation tank with a clown who is the most gentle clown I have ever seen with nems lol.

It was a mess due to shipping delay from LAX to BNA.

I'm not a big carpet guy, but this thread has been such an inspiration to me! I've currently got a nasty Haitian Condy that, somehow, plays host to some pink skunks. However, it kills everything it touches and is a boring metallic blue color. It's neat, but I'm really hoping to rehome it and replace it with a nice new LTA. I lost my last two a few months ago due to a water change mishap, so hopefully the tank is still hospitable to them.
Needless to say, there isn't an LTA thread, and these get as close to them in behavior as you can get lol Keep it up guys.

I decided to pull my purple gig from nem island, it had the upper ground and was shading out my other gigs, some of which I prefer over the purple. After a painful battle I was successful and while I had it out noticed some large white tissue near the base. It could either be digestive tissue or gametogenic tissue, of which I’m very much hoping it’s ripe gametogenic tissue! Would certainly be a great sign for my spawning aspirations.

Dude! This is so exciting! I hope she's got eggs cooking up, the spawning process would be an amazing thing to document! I hope to set up a spawning experiment with long tentacle anemones later this year, all things willing. I hope to have similar success some day!

I just sent off samples of two purple gigs and a sample from my red gig to a genetic lab to be sequenced. This will confirm if it's a gigantea, a hybrid, or a totally different species. Probably won't see the results for a year, but I'm excited to see them!

That’s cool! What company does this? I assume you’ll also learn if they are male or female?

I'm actually sending it to a lab at the University of Texas. The coral genomics lab I work part time for is doing this for me as a "thank you" for spawning Acropora for them successfully.

I took some microscopic photos of gig tentacles I cut. They are deflated after being cut, but they are sure stuffed with zooxanthellae!

BIG NEWS!!!

I've been waiting a year to post this video, but it's now been a full year since I cut the gigantea and it is still alive. I have also successfully cut a neon green gigantea too since I originally made this video. Positive signs that we can "frag" this species and reduce our collection from the wild. A special thanks to @FarmerTy for helping me in the video production. Enjoy!

awesome! I'm sure that many other nems could be produced this way with a careful cut and proper care post-op. Thank you for documenting this process!

I have to say, you are much braver than me to frag it. I'm glad your two new gigantea are doing well, and I hope that this pushes the hobby a little closer to sustainability.
