No real need for an open stand. Nothing in it but my top off reservoir. I have my sump behind the tank fully exposed! Makes it so easy to work on anything! Best thing ever! Unfortunately, my sump for my new 50 cube will be in the stand. It will be quite a learning curve as my other tank, a 55, that everything will be transferred from also has the sump behind the stand fully exposed...

With all the cool equipment and gadgets available these days one trend in the aquarium industry is glass doors and open stands! Clean wiring, colored PVC, LED cabinet lighting and more can make for a complex looking and beautiful equipment cabinet. I personally like it! Let's talk about it!

1. Do you have an open stand or cabinet with glass doors to show off your equipment area?

2. Do you like to keep your sump/equipment area clean and tidy?

Let's see a photo of your open sump/equipment area!

Judging by some of the articles I read there are hobbyists who would spend more time gazing at all the gadgets than the livestock.

Yes - prefer open stands. I like the look of the equipment, and honestly, when someone new sees the tank, they sometimes like seeing and learning about how the life support systems work. I also like the quick and easy access to the equipment.

The current tank is open,

And the new tank will be as well. - Here's a progress pic:

I think the glass display door would be great, just means you would need to run LED’s all the time together the look.
just through the build stage of new build, once I got the led’s powered up I though it would good with a glass door where the Apex controller is.
Currently have under tank led’s that also light up the apex and sump led’s.
Considering changing the door on the apex side to show setup.
Both LED’s are connected to apex through door sensors, these come on for 10 minutes after the door opens.

I decided to have both side panels of my stand glass. This serves two purposes. First being able to show off equipment without taking away from the look of the tank itself. Second is ease of maintenance by making all my reservoirs (ATO, Calcium, Alkalinity, Magnesium, and trace elements easy to check without taking off any panels. All panels and trim were made custom by a local cabinet company.

I've since moved this tank but I am definitely a fan of the open stand! Still have to get my dosing containers sorted out though and led lighting installed.

Glass is neat. But the DP is what I care about. My equipment is tucked away and might be show worthy, but I don’t want to detract from the true feature. I show people when they ask questions.

No way! That's why I have a fish room. I hardly have time to keep my house tidy. My fish room has all the charm and beauty of a boiler room. Hard core functional, just the way I like it!

My First reef tank...work in progress. Combination of new and used equipment. The IceCap36XL is a beast.

I may put a couple of gates on my stand and call them bill and Melinda....they're the only ones that can actually afford the kind of money that gets thrown under there!
