The other ingredients in vinegar also degrade equipment where as citric acid doesn’t

Basic chemistry

A strong acid is an acid which is completely ionized in an aqueous solution. Hydrogen chloride (HCl) ionizes completely into hydrogen ions and chloride ions in water. A weak acid is an acid that ionizes only slightly in an aqueous solution. Acetic acid (found in vinegar) is a very common weak acid.

Strong acids clean better and faster. Much much faster.

Dilute HCL is sold at Home depot as Muriatic acid. A cup of it in a few gallons of water will clean your tank right up. Wear gloves, rinse it well if you get it on you and don't drink any. Use a baby bottle brush from the dollar store to swoosh it around. It will totally react with the organics in the sewer and so is harmless when poured down a toilet or sink. It will make white spots on your cloths, wear old ones.

I stand mine up in the bath tub that way the water just runs out . A cup fill it with water over and over to clean it out.
