I'm seeing some post about the new Red Sea leds having issues.

Overheating, flickering and going down.

One member got an replacement light and the heatsink temp is good and his flickering stopped too.

I figure if you got a new S-Series the new led bar would have less depth too.

Seems like the new leds are about 4" in depth.

I feel your pain, go check the video I posted of my infestation. I have been letting it go in prep for berghias. Just killing the ones that creep around my frags. Besides that, if anything, they are cuc. But soon they'll be food ;)

Yes and they don’t sit flush with the canopy either, they are slightly to tall so you can see the tops

They have designed a new light but not bothered with a new light canopy to fit them, at least for the moment.

It all looks to me like the bean counters have been allowed to take control. The new Max S systems don’t even come with the stool anymore. The only reason I can see that they would develop their own light, over a proven system like Hydra HD, is because they will make much more profit. This is fair enough I guess, they are a business.

And ‘elsewhere’ everyone who has had the new skimmer has replaced it within just a few weeks.

Oops! I feel Red Sea rushed their lights as well as they rushed the Reefer Skimmer, I can see the same strategy in both occasions: rushed, lack of adaptation of the overall S-Max design (sump and lights rack), and pricing trying to undercut competition.

I guess we are spoiled by Red Sea quality in their previous products and somehow they are not making right now.

In my case I will not change my AI Hydra lights, they are excellent lights and easy to control.

It will be interesting to keep looking at these products reviews.

These type of bugs is why I dont buy tech that's brand new, phones brand new, vehicles, equipment, tools etc.. let them run the hobbyist gauntlet and get poked around for a while wait for the redesign, and then wait for that one to get torn up. Usually by the 3rd prototype, they have heard or thought of almost anything and fixed them.

It is cool to have the latest and greatest, but I'd rather let someone else dive in a fox hole and tell me what's in it before I take a leap. ;)

Dang...
I would not want my leds to stick out of the led bar either... ;Yuck

I'm still ticked about the Red Sea bean counters dropping the ball on the original S-Series led upgrade, from the 10 bulb T5 canopy.

You can see the 650 later in the video.

(lol)
Waited two years, then they went AI???

I've got a few that size in my tank and too many smaller ones to count ;)

Man...
My Regal plowed thru the small ones in my reef.

This is the biggest one that I've ever had. Hope it can make it in the sump. It's got a big foot, but it needs to replant.

Got Band of Brothers, part eight queued up.
Good series and follows Easy Company's path to a tee.

Hope you have a good night.
