Hello!

Tank currently in the ugly phase but I have added some toxic green zoanthids and green Star polyps. The green zoanthids I have kinda look like this hitchhiker but are stationed on an island across the tank. This stuff showed up next to my green star polyps, but as far as I know gsp babies don’t look like this.

There are two of them. do I have to worry about whatever it stinging my gsp? It looks almost like aiptasia but with a pretty neon green center and I am already treating my tank with aiptasia x (I found 3 heads). I added the Corals and gsp about a month ago so it’s weird I’m only just now seeing this. I tried touching it and it SEEMED like it only retracted instead of disappearing completely, so there’s that. I’m thinking a paly but I have no idea why it’d show up now.

thanks!

I assume it's an old aquriam if you are treating with aiptasia x or you have transferred corals from an existing tank that also has aiptasia, from your pictures it looks like you have stuck a new GSP coral frag onto an existing rock

Looks like protopalys, yeah. Somewhat invasive and extremely toxic, and may crowd out whatever they grow next to; those are babies, the polyps get much larger. Unless you really like them, I'd suggest removing the rock and smothering those in liquid superglue, or killing them with aiptasia-X. If you do really like them, make sure to be extra-careful working in the tank.

Great. The island it’s on was going to be a GSP rock, but I am tempted to keep them. Do you think the Palys would outcompete the gsp for space on the rock?

I don't know enough about their exact growth rates to tell. They'll certainly try, and one is likely to win out over the other eventually.

Can you break the GSP disc off this rock and attach it to a different one? That would probably be the easiest way to keep both.
