So over the weekend I decided to experiment due to the sheer fact that there is so much conflicting information on acclimating green spotted puffers into salt water, what age, what size, how long...etc.

I bought this little guy from a lfs about 4 weeks ago. During that time I slowly brought up the salinity from 0 to 1.010.
After 12 hours of drip acclimation I then brought the salinity up to 1.023 and he is now in my 72 gallon eating, nicely coloured, a little shy but doing great!

So for anyone wondering about acclimating a juvenile GSP into full marine conditions. Yes I agree do it slow, this again was fully an test to see if it really was possible to acclimate a gsp less that 4” into a marine aquarium.
since they are all wild caught I cannot confirm/compare age to size so that was my final factor in making the decision.

Anyway here are some photos and video of the little guy in the aquarium! GSP 72 Gallon

The conflicting information on acclimating green spotted puffers into salt water is probably due to the fact that there are many different species sold under this trade name. From pure freshwater species to those that come from brackish water. Good luck with this

Wow thanks for all the helpful information! He is so cute and looks very healthy. Green spotted puffers are the reason why I started the hobby. I just set up my brackish water tank I have more info on it in my Intro Thread but I will definitely bring up my little guy when I get him to full marine when he is of the right size.
thanks for sharing!
