Just got ready to move things out of acclimation and noticed this on a new hammer. Earlier, at first glance, it looked like it was a little algae and went ahead with acclimation. But this is not any algae I’ve seen. I sent pics to the shop just a bit ago but though I’d ask here too.

Looks to be growing out of the skeleton under the tissue. Kind of spongey feeling.

Any ideas?

Where the longer tube are coming off the connective tissue is gone

I was looking at the circle thing too. Maybe a tube worm, is it hard? You able to break off. It could also be some of the left over skeleton from where your branch was snipped off from colony.

The arrow I have no idea. I would not be concerned. Could just be a deflated polyp.

i alway bug @Flippers4pups on these

The pics aren’t showing as clear once posted...? They are some sort of spongy tube. The arrow was trying to show where another tube is growing out from under the tissue but the clarity may be lacking. The area with larger tubes have caused the connective tissue to recess. Not a happened when cut, bagged, etc.

All I see are vermetid snails. Looks like some are under the torch tentacles and are bothering the tissue.

Hopefully flipper will know. It’s been a while since kept hammers. Besides bugs and BJD I cant think of any to worry about. Like mentioned scrape the snails off.

I usually break the frag off the plug at the base, but that’s up to you.

That was my conclusion also, I wouldn’t have expected that from the seller. Even if they were supposedly dead, the appearance is not very appealing. Makes me very gun shy about the whole order. If something that noticeable is on a coral what small pests may be there as well?

WYSIWYG sale photo- no signs of the growths in the pic. I figure it might get asked so I’d put it up fo reference.
