Growth in Skimmer

Title says it all. I didn't put this in the skimmer and I don't know of anything in the aquarium remotely similar.

The growth in question is in the middle of the picture near the back of the skimmer body. To me it looks like it could have polyps, but I have never seen a polyp on it. The texture kind of looks like soil.

mm it look a bit like a sponge, do you ever try to touch it with something ? Is it hard or soft, jelly like ? Is it moving from the water flow in ?

I bet on sponge, but not sure until I see and another photo different angle
I'll be not surprised after I had snail which never had hard shell on it, it was complete sponge covering it.

I tried to take some better photos. Fair enough, it's probably a sponge. I thinks interesting it only grows in the skimmer in this exact spot.

The more I look the more it looks like just a clump of dirt. but you do have a lot of sponge growing around it which is good.
