From the picture, my first assumption is Aiptasia.

I would be able to better confirm with a picture of white lighting.

Don't fret just yet - this community is full of experts and wonderful solutions both biologically and chemically. We got you, and you got this.

Are you able to take one with white lights only? At first blush it does look like aiptasia (which I'm guessing is what you think it is), but I don't want to lead you astray as it's a bit tough for me to see with the color of the picture.

Hey, it could be much worse. Check out this awesome Bobbit worm!

Some methods of control for you if possible.

1. Lazer!
2. Kalk paste
3. Manual removal
3. Specific peppermint shrimp. You want species A in particular. They're typically larger and have a different pattern on the side.

My apologies for the beginner question, but what's so bad about Aiptasia? The live rock for my new tank has a couple among the mushrooms and green stars, and I find them interesting. So long as I get a couple of peppermint shrimp to keep the numbers in check, what's the big issue?

Cheers

Scott
