Hanna Nitrate HR is in the house!

Received mine and compared to Nyos. My nitrates are not normally this high (and weren’t just a week ago) but Hanna said 13.4 and Nyos pretty much agreed.

The low range kit isn't nearly complicated as it is made out to be but right tool for the right job so it is good to see this come to market.

Totally agree with this. My LR and HR are pretty much identical in terms of results. However, i do love not having the extra steps and smell reagent anywhere near me

My nitrates don’t move that much so the ten reagents should last me over a month(hoping I won’t need to pre order for those either). I’m excited to get a number read out. Those that don’t mind the color readings won’t be as excited for this I’m sure. The easier the test the more likely I am to perform it.
It’s one more addition to my hanna arsenal, now I’m just hoping they simplify the calcium checker somehow.

It always amazing me that the manufacturer always seems to charge more than a distributor, even tho Hanna would have sold the product to them at a greatly reduced price, but the store can still sell at a profit and still offer reduced price shipping, yet the manufacturer changes $18!

I just read a few people worried about getting more reagents. I don’t think that will be an issue in a month from now. the initial 10 should get me there. Testing twice a week till I start to see a drop in nitrates

Just got this as well. Trying to figure out if I dropped my nitrates or if this reading is different than what a RedSea test would show.

Went from 32 on Red Sea to 12.9 on Hanna. I did make some serious changes but was shocked it was that big

Probably correct going by the results these guys are getting...going from 32 to 12 is very doable if you made a few big changes, a good clean or water change would see that change alone.

Yeah removed 3 of my biggest fish and about a third of my 10 year old rock.

Just got mine in today. Checked shipping this morning and it said it would be here Friday. Imagine my surprise when I get an email saying it was delivered.

When I tested my tank on Friday with the red sea kit, it showed it being somewhere between 2-4. After doing the very simple high range checker test, it zeroed that in at 4.2! Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I bought this. No more guessing. I won't have to worry about any dilution methods if it's over 5. This checker is now the new standard for me and I won't use anything else until something better comes out for hobbyists. Bravo, @Hanna Instruments.

Hanna HR nitrate checker came today. I ran my usual Red Sea nitrate test first so as not to be influenced by the Hanna. The coloration never really matches the card on the Red Sea test kit. Regardless I read it at 16 ppm. The Hanna was incredibly easy and my result was 19.3. I'm sold.

Been using Salifert Nitrate for many years. I average between 10-25ppm with salifert. Did my first Hanna nitrate test today and got 17.5ppm. I give the Hanna nitrate tester two enthusiastic thumbs up.

So, I ran the both the LR vs HR Hanna on my SPS system. Here are the results of that test.

LR = 5.6 ppm vs HR = 6.9 ppm

LR has 0.25 +/- accuracy for error

HR has 2.0 +/- accuracy for error

The numbers are very close even if you enter the error rate:

HR = 4.9 - 8.9 ppm factoring error

LR = 5.35 - 5.85 ppm factoring error

I am still well below the 10ppm for Nitrates with SPS dominant system with the HR test for error/accuracy, so for a quick bench mark for reading Nitrate, the Hanna HR gets my approval considering you get results in less than 10 minutes with 1 regent!

Once you get over 5.0, you're supposed to dilute the measurement. Once you dilute it, the accuracy is worse with +/- 2.5ppm. It's likely your high range checker is more accurate for you now.

Okay, good to know! If I get a HR reading in the future below 5ppm, I will go back to my LR and redo the test to see the difference. Thank you for catching my error in data. It was late last night and I only ready .25+/- on the back of the box, little did I know that calculation for error is observed for 5ppm and below readings.

Yeah so I think there's this slow catchup, everyone is getting their HR checkers then realizing they need reagents. I placed my order for reagents with Hanna direct from their website yesterday and today I have an email saying they're backordered; expected ship date is July 20th!

I ordered mine from https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/ yesterday. Expected stock date July 6th. I just checked their site and it is still showing the 6th; i hope that date is right.
