Despite using hydroxide 2 part pH during the day has been around 7.8, decided to run the skimmer inlet to the small window in the basement. Got some 3/4 PVC and routed it along the ceiling with some 1/2" braided tubing. The stock is 3/8 so fits right in the 1/2". Bypassed the stock silencer and air reducer so it pulls more air and had to nearly close the wedge pipe.
Took this pic at 2pm, let's see how much it raises.
I did a couple things recently, put the chaeto basket in the recirculation from the main pump, I think the macro needed more flow. I am not sure if it uses the nutrients in the basket and the exchange isn’t enough or it’s a heat issue, but there seems to be more robust growth now and my phosphate is staying around 0.03 if I keep nitrate detectable.
I decided to raise my alk up to around 10dkh, I personally find there is a lot more growth and it’s always been a sweet spot for me. I just want to make sure the pH doesn’t spike too high, but based on the above I don’t think it will. Had the doors open the past few days and it didn’t get much over 8.1.
I did a big order of hermits from LA. Scarlets and little blue legs. I had avoided them, but for getting algae growing on parts of the coral, like a branch that died, nothing seems to travel over the healthy tissue like hermits do. They have been working quite well and I put extra food in the tank now for them.
Clams are all still alive. I still am unsure about a couple of them that never looked great to me off the bat, and am surprised they have lasted this long, but at least it means the disease I previously had is gone or they would have all died by now.
Had some brown jelly pop up, like years ago it got to one of my hammers, I think I brushed against it too hard with my hand and tore some tissue, but it has spread to a couple other LPS. Maybe the hermits have damaged the tissue enough? Real bummer is one of my prize goni, the UC yellow has it today. I will try peroxide dip, but I have never found anything that stops it. So that is disappointing. It was doing so well and there is a monster UV connected to the display.
Apart from that things are going pretty well in the tank. The battlecoral box is looking good. Had brown out when dosing flux and chemiclean, but colors are coming back better than ever. The increased macro flow and lower phosphate seems to be doing the trick.
Thought I would try something. Since the display is small I don't have any squammy or derasa, but with the big sump decided to try putting some in there where they can get big as they want!
I have the h380 over the chaeto, spectrum is a bit red, so will be interesting to see how they do. I think they will be fine since most are raised in raceways with shade cloth under sunlight. Checked the par with senseye and is 180-230 on the bottom where they are so that is solid.
Got some direct from ora. The shells look fantastic with new growth.
I had the senseye out so figured might as well check PAR on the Maximas during peak. 400ish which is a bit more than I remember. Fun playing with seneye. Would do more but then coral isn't happy.
Also noticed a ton of baby rock nems, was fun in the pico but worried about how many there are with the sps when they grow up.
Well I ordered a waterbox 100.3 tank to get more depth since the tank really shifted from clam focused shallow setup to a normal reef. Might as well start a new build thread on that tank, although it will not be here for a month still.
