Hey

I want to start utilizing the triton system but am unsure i want to go Full Triton. Honestly I am a little nervouse of having too much decaying algae in the fuge. So i was considering going "Other Methods" and seeing how that works out.

Is doing it this way a waste of time?

I've read a few ppl have done this, anything you can say to me?

I have done it the transition went smoothly

The reason I did it was because I did not have a lot of fuge algea as soon as I switched my fuge exploded

It's worth it I would say

Did you do the "other methods" or the Triton method reagents?

Ok. Im glad the transition was smooth. I only have about a softball and a half of chaeto right now. I just "trimmed" it from a basketball to make more light penetration. I have to go slow now because i just upgraded my lights and want to try not to get any gha. I just won the gha battle after upgrading my tank in june. I figured I'd go other methods then full.

About how long was the "other methods" used?

And how did you know you were good to switch over to "triton method"? What were the signs?

I talk to Joe from unique corals and he said I could have used the triton method from the start so I waited till my second round of other methods was done and switched over. Not really a tell tale sign I used the other methods to dial in my dose and get used to the method

I used two rounds of other methods then my third time I used the triton methods

I went the other way... from Full Triton Method to Other Methods. My 'frug is is about 7% of water volume (67 gallons) and think that I should be using Other Methods. Full Methods worked OK for me only because of the Kessil H380 light. After a prolonged fight with dinos now hair algae is now getting the best of me so switching should be a good move. All in all... if you don't have the complete 10+% gallon 'frug, in the proper Triton design sump, stay with Other Methods.

I did end up switching out last night. The tank has been up for 7 months now and I did have a small algae outbreak but think it may have been part of a cycle. I'll get a small spot every once and awhile but just pull it out. I made a new sump about 2 months ago which has about a 12 gallon area for macro on a 75 tank. Thanks for the input!
