I'm trying to set up a new tank now and i wanted to run my skimmer off of my return pump. I have a ReefOctopus 150 with a bad pump (i know i can buy a replacement for the old pumps for reasonably cheap) and wanted to run it off of my DC return pump to reduce tree amount of heat generated in the sump (an issue i have in my current tank) if anyone has any experience i would much appreciate your input on what i need to get and where to get it (metric true union cuppling, venturi, etc) worst comes to worst ill habe to deal with the added heat but I'm trying to avoid it honestly.

I'm going to BUMP this to draw a few more eyes on it

You will be the first one to do this.
There is a reason why skimmers have their own pump.
What size return you have?
What pump we talking about?
What's the pump height from pump to return into the tank?
What size plumbing you use?
How many turns are in the plumbing.
What the total volume of your setup.

Thank you.

I'm thinking a Jebao DCP-10000 inside the sump, height is only about 6 feet with elbows, tees, valves, and fittings call it 2 meters of head 90 gallon tank, 30 gallon sump TOTAL actual volume will be about 110 gallons, 1-1/4" out to 1" return lines, a manifold for the skimmer and future expansion for reactors. Going to make a custom sump, and the pump will only be ruining at about 50%.

Like i had stated earlier i want to run out off of the return for heat purposes and to save space in the sump. My house stays at 78 degrees from 10am to 3pm and i try to keep my tank from going over 78 which of course is harder with more pumps in it and i don't want a chiller (can't afford it now cost or extra electricity)

You want to pump the water through the skimmer as close to your drains as there is where you water from tank needs to be skimmed.
Your return pump should be installed as far away as your drains.
Besides if the plumbing rises above the collection cup water will fill it and then overflow..
That's why we set the skimmers on set level.
Pumps for skimmers don't add a lot of heat to your water IMO.

Ok so update. I found that coralview.com sells the metric true unions for reef octopus (25mm for mine) purchased a venturi from a spa (needs to be tested) and if the bubbles aren't small enough thinking puff getting an 3/4" ozone turbo mixer for a spa to break them up. I am thinking the mixer because i don't know of a mesh diffuser i can use that will either not clog or be resistant to salt...

Ill be ruining it with a gate valve for regulation so that i don't overflow the skimmer
