I saw on dr reef’s website they qt at under 2.25 ppt of copper for only 14 days, so does that mean ich and velvet and get through qt?

So you cant make a custom order? you have to go vote on a fish and hope you get one when they’re released? Is fish hotel fish more expensive than dr reef?

I find hotel to be equal or cheaper and shipping is cheaper.

He does not have a store front and is limited on space so most places won't sell to him so he orders from regions... like fiji vs africa, etc. Lets everyone vote where to order from. There is a list of fish showing what he can get from each region, then you buy a $25 giftcard (it is refundable) just to hold your spot, then you list what fish you want, he orders them (not all will come in, he has no control over that and not all will survive QT), then he QT's them, if they make it, you can purchase what you pre ordered or you can pass so there is no obligation to take them. You don't pay until fish are ready to go.

FishHotel is a small QT business and Dr Reef is a large scale operation with a store. Most wholesalers wont sell to you unless you have an actual store. So expect to wait and don't expect to get it all in one order.

So far I have received from Fishotel:

Black leopard wrasse
Ornate leopard wrasse
Bluestar leopard wrasse
Randall's goby
yellowhead jawfish
Red Line Anthia
Pinkstreak wrasse

and I currenlty have a china wrasse ordered

ya, I like wrasses.

If you want somewhere you can just order all fish in 1 go right away, Dr reef is a better option.

You sort of have to put in the work for FishHotel fish.

Actually on the website he says he does 1.75-2.25 ppm of copper. Is that bad? The reason im so worried is because i want buy from dr reef an again because it was so convenient, but my last shipment all came with flukes, so im scared to buy from him again and have to deal with ich or velvet this time.

Does tsm and fish hotel qt fish better than dr reef?
2 to 2.25 would be a safer range. I go to 2.50 for active infections.

Example of last order: Oct 10th a list posted and Nov 15th, fish ready for purchase. So a little over a month between orders.

Again, can't guarantee the fish shows up and survives QT.

Sometimes being the best at something means it isn't the easiest. This type of purchasing isn't for everyone, have to have a lot of patience.

You can do custom orders but he mostly does them in batches. He changes up the wholesale vendors on different orders and will post to HumbleFish forums the list of the fish available from the wholesale vendor tells everyone they have until X date to order, and you reply to the post listing what fish you want and how many. Then you go to his website and pay for a $25 deposit. Then when the fish are ready to ship you pay the balance.

I find his order process cumbersome. I prefer how Dr Reef and Marine Collectors do it which is a traditional web shopping cart system. Lists all the fish that their standard wholesale vendor carries, and you order and pay for the fish and wait for them to be ready to ship. That said Dierks who runs the FishHotel is top notch and knows his business. I trust him over Dr Reef and Marine Collectors.

Interesting. I was never told that. I also wasn’t charged for the second fish, but I question that approach. Multiples of the same fish in the same tank don’t always get along or you may not have room for both, so I’m not sure that’s the best approach.

Regardless, they should tell the customer ahead of time so that he or she can let them know if they want the second fish. I still think he does a good job and would recommend him. Just don’t agree with that approach.

The one thing that annoys me is the extra fish. I don’t want 3 wrasses lol

They do indeed quarantine and do well. The factor is the stress of shipping, stress and change in temperatures. While the fish are QT'd at the facility, you still want to assume the fish has something and do your own short term treatment for 14 days minimum to assure the fish is indeed clear and ready to enter display

Yeah I hear you. At the end of the day though they are a business and its probably more cost effective to send you an extra fish then it would be to ship out another one overnight to replace a death as shipping alone can be at least $50-$100

Maybe they will send me an extra Achilles Tang on this order (a man can dream right?).
Have him send you 2 Achilles Tangs, and I'll take the other one!

I used him once so far for a pair of pygmy angels. They were mistakenly delivered to my house instead of the UPS drop off location so they were outside for hours before I got home. They were skinny and rough looking. One didn't last the night, the other passed a week and half later. He gave credit on one so I'm trying to get a Cuban Golden Basslet from him now. Hopefully it goes better.
