I’ve tried muriatic acid, bar keepers friend and vinegar on my glass and still can’t get the hard water stains off. Has anyone used this and is it reef safe?

Evening

Sounds like you tried the go to ones. Never heard of it being used for this application, but doesn’t mean it can’t be. My first instinct though would be don’t use it. Let’s see if anyone else knows.

I will mention usually those stains disappear when filled, so it should not be an issue.

These hard water stains are weird because it’s not the typical line you see at the top, it covers the whole panel of glass only on the back and left panels the other two are clear.

If the muriatic didn't get it then I am not sure anything will that won't be dangerous to you or the future inhabitants of the tank. Good luck.

You could try it but it won't take out hard water. the reason that citric acid, muratic acid, barkeepers friend works is that it is acidic and chemically reacts to the hard water, the alcohol will not do that. it would dissolve other things though like adhesives or marker marks or fingerprints...
Citric acid and barkeepers friend have worked well for me, but i have found you have to let it soak sometimes and let it work it over chemically before you scrub.

edit: i had that typed up a while before i submitted it. looks like you have a good answer in that it is probably etched

Looks etched to me as well. Sorry to say that its probably not going to be cleared up. Would make a great sump though!

Almost looks etched in. How long was it previously in service? Would coralline buildup cause that? Hoping one of the "glass guys" will chime in.
I believe it was up for 3 years is there no way to get rid of etched glass?
