I charge all my expenses for everything. Then pay it off every month before the due date. The cc company pays me. :)
A guy I worked with used to put everything like food/house expenses/etc. on CC and paid off every month. He said he would make $1,000 yearly on cash back incentives.

I don't need to finance anything aquarium related, but might do it for a boat or camping trailer....used of course.

This is exactly what I do. I have a single card I use for everything and pay it off each month. I'm not a big fan of credit cards because I think we as consumers end up paying more for everything in the long run but it is what it is. I refuse to use a debit card and offer the thieves access to my cash. My CC gets hacked at least twice a year but I have no idea where or how it happens.

And then you have a stellar credit rating....but don't want/need it.

In the old days, we used a thing called cash….they’d even knock a bit off the total since they didn’t have to lose percentage to the cc processing fees. Now people look at you cross eyed when you ask for a cash discount. Even act like it’s a hassle to take cash, like it has the plague or something. Some places don’t even have a cash register at all, swipe only. Legal tender? Points and cash back are nice, but not necessarily free as someone pays merchant services a percentage and passes that along.

Cash and no receipt gets me smoking deals at my favorite lfs. He does give me a hand written company receipt for warranty purposes on equipment.

Fewer and fewer are doing this nowadays. Livestock is perfect for avoiding certain costs as there is always some loss of product. Harder for a big ticket item to fall off the truck and become a loss on a frequent basis.

I got a nice discount on my 150g custom tank for paying cash, they were semi-local so that was an option. I didn't even think to ask tbh... they just said "oh but if you pay cash its x amount instead since it saves us the fees".

I'm a big fan of utilizing 0% financing opportunities when available with the caveat that I still budget such that I could have paid cash for what I was financing if needed. This keeps me in a range of spending that doesn't bend me over, but allows me to take advantage of other peoples money and keep mine in savings or the market.

That being said I avoid financing of any kind on hobbies. None of this is necessary. It's one thing to take advantage of interest free financing on appliances or furniture, but I don't "need" a fish tank no matter how hard my delusions may try to trick me!

Never have and never will, if I don't have the money for it I can't afford it, probably not a responsible way to keep living things too, if something happens to a piece of equipment and you don't have the money for it living things may die

I am a firm believer that when possible, especially with a hobby, do not finance. It's is literally throwing money away. We only have two things financed in our household at present. Our new car (which we're paying off WAY early in a few months) and the house (which will be paid off early, as we're funneling the car payment into it (plus some) upon payoff). I have 3 credit cards I pay down to zero once per week. I've found i can live at half pay if needed by following the no finance rule. I hate financing!!!!
