What are some things you've done with skulls or other cool forms in your reef?

i have always wanted to take a piece of reef rock and shape it into a skull.... i told my girlfriend and kids about the idea and they said NO!!!!


i might just do it anyway with my upcoming tank reboot

While some of those do look cool, I am in the camp that likes everything natural looking.

I have a dinasaur skull in mine .. although it is fake .

I prefer the natural look but when your wife says you can upgrade from a 4' to a 6' if she gets to put a sunken ship in the tank..... then you put a sunken ship in the tank!

The one with the Anthelia for hair and Blasto for eyes, oh my!!!!!

It's something I would not do, but I sure like to see it.

I would like to try it but most of the skulls I have seen looks too big for my tank-IM40.

Wish I had pics of my first few tanks but I used to carve out foam and also spray/soak certain parts of structures with acetone to get gnarly shapes and crevices. Covered in dyed tile grout it looked like real rocks. Great way to makr mangrove roots too.

I really like the idea of it. Our tanks are already effectively living art, having coral encrust something could be a great artistic decision. The best one I've seen so far was at RAP in Orlando where they had cyphastrea cover a female mannequin.

This might be a dumb question but would one be able to put decorative crystal in the tank? Something like quartz... I have a clear quartz skull that would look cool for a while or maybe some spheres? I know they would be encrusted if left too long but maybe if kept clean they might look cool? What other materials can serve as tank decoration? Pros/cons? Thanks in advance!!

Quartz is a man made stone and i would totally feel safe putting that in my tank
