New to this forum, not so new to reefing... Had a 125g reef back in 1993 (think bioballs), returned to the hobby in 2009 with a 240g mixed reef (think TBS & T5s), jumping back in with a 45g nano reef as we wrap up 2019 (think LEDs, dry rock & nitrifying bacteria). I'll start a build thread for sure, but wanted to introduce myself <wave>. Here's what I picked up over the Black Friday weekend as our starter kit;
  • Red Sea Max E-170 (45g) Black AIO
  • 40 lbs CaribSea Life Rock (20 lbs base, 20 lbs Shapes)
  • 50 lbs CaribSea Arag-Alive Fiji Pink Reef Sand
  • Spectrapure 4 Stage 90-GPD RO/DI System (CSPDI-90-MF)
  • Red Sea MCP Test Kit Marine Master Care
  • Flipper Algae Magnet Cleaner
  • Seachem Reef Glue (20gm)
  • Finnex 300 Watt Titanium Heater w/Digital Controller
  • Red Sea 24" x 24" Aquarium Screen Net Cover Kit (R42080)
  • Small Bucket Red Sea Salt (Blue)
  • Fritz TURBOSTART 900 Nitrifying Bacteria
  • EcoTech VorTech MP10QD pump
  • Coarse Net 6" w/12" Handle
  • Basic Water Change Aquarium Kit from SaltwaterAquarium
Here we go (again)!

Why they die?

Bad timing & life; have them in a small QT tank (I test params & hand dose daily). I did a pretty big water change for nitrate control and hours later the whole family was down for the count with food poisoning (bad sushi from Redwood City LoL). So, I wasn't able to test/dose for a couple days and the poor sticks got hit by a decent sized alk swing as the new water didn’t match params.

trying to combat the stn with some dipping and it’s showing mixed success.

What an anticlimactic, frustrating day... My big Black Friday order arrived, I was like a kid on Christmas morning! Huge pallet, full of goodies, including my new Red Sea MAX E-170 & stand.
Red Sea arrival.jpg

Unpack everything, start to assemble the stand - only to discover it is missing a piece! And not just any piece, but the top of the cabinet. Think IKEA box of parts, missing one of the most important. Full stop.
Red Sea missing top.jpg

Emails sent, we'll see what the crew at Saltwater Aquarium & Red Sea can pull off to get me going again. SUPER FRUSTRATING. The best laid plans, eh? Sigh.

OK, that was absolutely unnecessary; I located it after hearing back from the SaltWater Aquarium team (thank you Greg, not your fault!). Turns out the Red Sea folks put it in the Aquarium box, UNDER the tank, as a support structure. Really? Do the next purchasers a favor and simply add a note to the Cabinet box redirecting to look under the tank in the other box? Silly. Oh well, back on track once again...
