I will get pic when lights come on. Basically just started about 2 weeks ago Not bad yet but started only in high flow areas on sand (brown stringy) and light dusting/ stringy on rocks in high flow. I was blowing off rocks every early evening. Most of the day looked alright but by end of day comes back just to blow off again. I started biopellets about 2 months ago but nitrates still around 5 to 10 ppm. My phosphates is near zero and doing some light dosing Thank you. And will get that pic. Hoping this kind Can be controlled by UV.

Those are ostreopsis dinos -- a UV system actually works well with this type and can remove them in a few days typically. Plumb it from the DT and returning to the DT.

A video of the microscopic view is more helpful but in this case it definitely is dinos and appears to be ostreopsis. This is the most toxic of the strains I've come across and you should be running GAC and changing it frequently.

UV is very helpful with this strain and in some cases miraculously so. UV unit needs to be about 1 watt/3gallons of system volume and plumbed from and back to the display with a dedicated pump. Don't feed the UV from your return pump/sump. Flow through the UV needs to be slow. I like to use 1-3 times the display volume/hour.

Anything that increases biodiversity seems to help. Dosing silicates to trigger a competing diatom bloom helps. Some have seen improvement with dosing phyto, adding new live rock, etc.

Keep nitrates and phosphates up. I aim for 0.06-0.1 for PO4 and 5-10 for NO3. Dinos seem to gain a competitive advantage in low nutrient systems.

@Idoc types faster than me. :D

Oh another trick to try is to zip tie some filter floss to your power head and change it frequently. This is a way to export ostreopsis since it seems to be attracted to high flow.

You could also consider shortening your light cycle or even turning lights off for 24-36 hours as ostreopsis tends to go in to the water column at night/low light. This makes it more susceptible to the UV (i.e. don't do this until UV is up and running)

@Idoc and @saltyhog thanks so much for the information. I will do as you say. Hoping this will be over quickly with the UV as not overunning my tank just yet. For timing sakes and I don't want to get a debate about the equipment but I did just run over to to get the Green Killing Machine UV 24w until I order the bigger unit. for experiment sake, I will let you know how it goes with this. I am just thinking it may not be big enough for my system 125g. I will continue to does phosphate as well.

Just in case anybody curious! Green killing machine worked. Goes to show you don’t need to buy top end.
