Timelime:

- Started with dirty frags from a frag swap
- Ended up with Bryopsis, and a nasty case of GHA
- Lots of manual removal
- Ended up doing two rounds of Fluconazole. GHA cleared up
- Massive Cyanobacteria outbreak
- Lots of manual removal
- Ended up dosing Chemi Clean
- Cyano cleared up in two days.

Now (tank is 11 months old)

It's only on the sand, and it appears to be photosynthetic and clears up at night.
I initially thought I didn't get all the cyano, so I dosed some more chemiclean. That does not appear to be clearing it up.

Current parameters:
Salinity: 1.026
Temperature: 78°F
PH: 8.0-8.1
Nitrate: 5.4
Phosphate: 0.06
Alk: 7.9
Ca: 425

It’s either diatoms (unlikely in a tank as old as yours unless you’re using tap water) or dinos (most likely). You need to ID which type to form a plan of attack. Get a cheap microscope and Google or search here to ID what you have and then go from there.

My son's microscope left much to be desired, but hopefully it's good enough for an ID.
