Hi,

Im about to setup my reef again a 4'x2'x20", and im wondering what everyone thought's on this are. Im trying to decide between either 2 mp40's or 1 mp60? let me know your thoughs. the tank will be pretty much SPS only, would a mp60 be too much?

2 mp40s should be perfect for that tank. From what I've been reading you need a 6' long tank to make use of the mp60. I had a 4'x30"x20" and have 3 mp40s on it.

I would go with the 40's so you can get the alternating flow. Plus you might blow your tank up with the 60. HA!

What everyone else said, 2 MP40's as you'll blast your water out the other side with the MP60 with the setting too high!

I use 2 mp 40's on my 4x2x2 and it is alot and a mp20 that i keep on for low flow at night i have one of the mp40 off to slow things down a bit when they are all on there is flow through out the whole tank very cool. my next tank 220 will have 2 mp 60's ..love the flow that the vortechs put out ..

Meh.... I would use a single mp60 myself and put the return on the Other end... Plenty of flow, cheaper and quieter...

Well thats what i was thinking, i could always dial back the 60 so it wasnt at a high flow setting

ok so the next thing is where im from the mp40's are $850 each and the mp60 is $1000 so if i go with the one mp60 then i can save $650, knowing this would you still go with the 2 mp40's or just stick with the 60 and spend the extra $650 on something else?

Ouch! That's really pricey, can you order from here in the us and ship to nz and save some cake? Personally I would do 2 mp40s because of the control factor you have. Try can alternate and really produce flow, where ad 1 60 will blow your fish an corals against the far side and you can have all flounder fish, and flat corals. Just my opinion .

I think having 2 MP40 will create more of a randomize flow for your corals versus just 1 Mp60.

i could order from US but warrenty will only cover it where its brought from, so if anything went wrong with the pump then i'd have to send back to US,

LOL, Do you think it would "pancake" mt fish to the opposite wall even with it dialled back, i think i would have to dial back the 40's to stop the sand going all over the show as well

2 mp40s definitely. You can get them for the same price as one here in the US. Seems even w/o the warranty you are better off doing it that way. So by off chance they both die, doubtful, then you buy 2 more and you are where you started moneywise...
