I found the instructions below for building an ADA style stand as I was wondering if anyone could help me redo the dimensions to fit a 30g 1/2 cube (24x24x12).

http://www.projectaquarium.com/plantedAquariumArticles_ADAAquariumStand.aspx

With the smaller size of the tank could I just double up 1/2 ply instead of 3/4 or should I just stick with the 3/4.

Also, does it need any type of 1x brace? I plan to use glue and pocket screws to assemble it and want to go with a single door opening so I can fit a 20x20x15 sump inside.

Someone from the #reefsquad could possibly help. We also have a number of #DIYWizards in here who might be able to give some advice.

I see no reason to double up the plywood or use 1x bracing if you went with 3/4" Ply. Glue and pocket screws are your friend and would love to see a build thread when you start:)

I don't see any reason why a 1/2" plywood box glued and brad nailed together wouldn't be more than enough for that size stand.

I built a 120g stand out of 3/4" plywood with no bracing and a 60g (same footprint of 48x24") out of 1/2" with no bracing.

I'll see if I can dig up some photos.

1x3 Trim is glued and finish nailed to the front and sides. Otherwise it is a 1/2" ply box [emoji4]

I agree with the others. No reason to go to 3/4" plywood unless you feel like you need the extra thickness for the pocket screws. If you are confident in your ability to use them correctly, the 1/2" is way more than strong enough without extra bracing.

I just finished a project for exactly these dimensions. I used 1/2" ply, glue, and pocket screws. I am not a wood worker by any means and it was easy enough.
