Hello All,

I have come across an issue which I think is Ich in my quarantine tank. It’s a 15-gal(57L) nano which I using as my QC tank while my new 86 gal (326L) main tank has been establishing.

My bristletooth tang looks like it has got Ich the only addition in the last week have been two Trochus snails and a gold tip new torch. He lives in the 15 gal with a coral banded shrimp and since I have removed the a rock and sand(to seed new tank) he has had less places to hide so I made the frag chairs so he can dart around in.

Hi have few questions.

If I remove the coral banded shrimp out of the nano and put him on to my main tank can it transfer the Ich to fish in main display(1 Blue tang and 2 clowns)?

Did the Ich come from the tourch and snails? I did not transfer any water when I introduced them.

How do I get rid of the ich without killing my corals which are still in my nano tank?

Anything you transfer from one aquarium to another has the potential to transfer ich. I’m not sure how likely it is to transfer with a snail or coral because it would have to just have the parasite in some of the water in/around the animal but it definitely can happen.
The most common treatments for ich afaik are copper and hyposalinity and both of those won’t work with coral. The best option if possible is to setup a fish qt tank without corals that allows you to medicate the fish.

The dots seem a bit large to be ich not to rule it out but can be either lympho or sand although don’t think sand either
Have dots increased each day?
Do any other fish in tank have dots?
Is fish eating or breathing heavily?
Ashy is current ammonia and nitrate level?

Agree with both previous posts - moving anything "wet" from a tank with ich has the potential of carrying the disease with it. You should confirm this is ich though before doing anything drastic. The spots look a bit large to me. The trick is to sight the spots one day (which you've done in this picture) and then take a picture a couple of days later. If the spots are in different locations and have changed in number, it is probably ich. If the same spots are in the same location, it isn't ich. Sometimes, all of the spots will drop off, then return a day or so later, that can also be ich.

If it is ich, you'll need to hold all of the coral and shrimp, etc. away from other fish for ~60 days (45 to 75 depending on temperature). Then, as mentioned, you'll need to treat the tang with copper or hyposalinity.

Thank you all i think this may of been a false alram as the spots have moved. May of been grains of sand leftover in the tank that he pickled up on his body. I will hold off a few more weeks and monitor for symptoms. Thank you all again for the advice.
