I purchased my new tank today. I went with a 96x48x24 Acrylic peninsula tank. Does anyone have links, info, and videos for building a stand for a large tank of this size? Also, would love to see ideas for a canopy with doors on 3 sides for a peninsula. I am running halides and T5's also so I am thinking of leaving the top exposed to allow heat to escape.

I do have experience building stands and canopies but for smaller 150 gallon and less tanks. I imagine a tank of this size will require 2x6" and extra bracing, etc.

The tank will take around 8 weeks to build so I have a little time to prep and get ready. I will not build the stand and canopy until I receive the tank though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Josh

Are you building a stand that will accommodate a sump below or will you have a remote sump/fish room? If you are going the remote sump/fish room route the stand designs I use for my plywood DIY builds and my new monster build will work for that size tank but you can't put a sump under the tank with the design I use.

No under tank sump. It will go to a dedicated fish room.

The design is rather simple mostly 2x4s with some 2x6s and is the same design many DIY stands use it just has more stand legs to distribute the load. Its more or less a top and bottom wall frame with 2x4 cross braces 16" on center and 2x4 legs on each side of the cross brace 2x4s are 12" on center and at both ends. On the outside edge of the stand 2x6s are used to tied the top and bottom of stand together and the plywood top 3/4" locks the structure together. The white stand on the bottom is for my originally for my 480gallon plywood tank that was 96x48x24 which now supports my 400gallon tank. I used the same design for my 720 gallon plywood tank which is now a 700 gallon refugium tank. My new display is also using the same design. I suggest building this style stand level to the floor it sits on and if needed use composite shims for minor corrections to ensure every stand leg has contact with the floor. If you have any questions let me know I am happy to share.
