Got my reef a Valentine’s Day present!

This will be a serious upgrade, the pump is twice as powerful as my current one. Hopefully this will work better with my system! Awesome sale by marine depot on bubble mag stuff right now, and I also redeemed rewards points from stuff I’ve bought throughout this build. This skimmer and some Tropic Marin was only $100 at checkout :D:).

My parameters have been stable for 2 months at what Tropic Marin pro reef mixes out to. After checking out @randyBRS ’s break down of salt mix true price cost comparison, it just made sense to make the switch from RS Coral Pro!! Super excited to try it out, I’ve heard great things! ;)
Im so gun-shy with respect to changing salt. I tried Reef Crystals, but my tank didn't like it :(

Looking great! Best of luck with the SPS!! I'm sort of an LPS man myself ;)
Thank you thank you! I hope they keep doing good! I’m nitrates are creeping up on me a little bit, hoping this skimmer will help. My current one just isn’t pulling anything out anymore, even after a full cleaning.
I love lps too, it’s hard to choose what coral gets what real estate in the tank when I find all coral awesome in its own way. I actually need to think about getting rid of some lps that is going to be a problem soon with sweepers.
Looking at you Hollywood stunner

Thanks again for checking out my tank!

Yeah, hollywood stunners should only be kept in large tanks or frag tanks, imo. I love them, but they're too aggressive and grow too quickly. You should consider carbon dosing to control nutrients since you have an oversized skimmer.

I think reef crystals had a quality control issue when I tried them. My reefing buddy had a similar issue in his tank .

Very true about the stunner. It just grew so fast! Lol. I’ve been interested in carbon dosing but I’ve heard a lot of horror stories if you dose to much. Even a minor bacterial bloom can rtn some acros, trying to avoid that. I’m down to try it though if you have any recommendations on how to start and how to not crash your tank lol.

First of all, full disclosure...I'm definitely NOT an SPS guru.

However, I will say this...carbon dosing is extremely effective if you have an oversized skimmer. The method is very effective at removing excess nutrients. Almost too effective. If you don't supplement or purposely overfeed, carbon dosing can make your water too clean.

Sounds simple enough. How much do you use? Do you recommend Nopox or what is good ?

I started out using the Red Sea Nopox. I eventually made my own home made blend of vodka and vinegar. I've slowly reduced the vinegar content to stabilize pH. I currently use a 95% by volume mixture of vodka and the balance being vinegar to reduce effects on pH. Seems to be working well to keep my nitrates under 1 ppm and my phosphates under 0.04 ppm .

Impressive ! How often do you dose that? Is it something you could do like 1 ml a few times a day? Or is it better to put all 10ml in at once or however much you usually put in? Is it even daily? I haven’t looked into it to far.

Sorry to see you lost those couple frags. Your build looks great, I can't wait to get my tank set up. You guys definitely give me motivation to keep going when I see your progress.

Yea it happens... I dipped them to long I think. Thanks for checking it out, I try and post pics every few days. It’s cool to see the coral growth skipping back a few pages haha. Ya buddy bimmers all the way ! That ones my 10’ E92 manual, it’s super fun, I have a newish X5 50i as well for going up to Tahoe and stuff to shred/snowboard.

I got my daughter lessons, loves it.

She also can't wait to have her own aquarium set up. I'm debating upgrading her 20 tall to a 40 Breeder during petco dollar per gallon sale this spring. $50 for a brand new 40br isn't too bad.
